Ebay vs Anet
So, I hear that Anet is taking measures against ppl selling virtual goods in Ebay?
After hearing so, i take a gander and look up guild wars in Ebay and only come up w/the regular expected stuff i.e. games for sale, accounts for sale, plat for sale. However, no more green items/l33t items listed for sale. I know im probably more than a little late on this discussion but i couldn't find anything thru search before i posted. What sorta measures is Anet taking? |

Other than banning accounts that they catch - nothing (I do not see how they could go outside of their own servers).
However, Ebay has recently banned said auctions and polices it self. Not just for GW, but MMORPG's in general. |

i just looked again and found some dude selling 5 black dyes and it has quite a few bids....over $10 so far. which is strange, cuz u can buy 200k gold for $10 and that'll buy you about 25 black dyes. |

You can check out the Ebay thread in Riverside Inn forum.
Basically, ANet states that the sellers do not "own" the product they are selling as all server content belongs to ArenaNet. Ebay has decided to ban all sales of "virtual" goods. They will delete such sale posts and warn the seller. Repeat offenses will ban your Ebay account. As with any website, sometimes things will be overlooked for a while, but you will no longer find much in the way of "virtual" items on Ebay. |

I think its starting next month but Ebay is stoping the sale of virtual goods like gold for games and so on its going to be against there rules to do so and if you try and sell these types of items there after words the first time the items will be removed and you will geet a warning e-mail and if you post it again your ebay account will be banned for a certain amount of time and again if you try it again after that your ebay account will be banned permantly

There is a growing backlash against the sale of virtual world content for real world dollars, partly because the Joint Economic Committee of Congress is publishing a report in the next few months on the economies of WoW, Second Life and some other MMOs. The question, of course, is whether or not profit earned in real world dollars for virtual goods is taxable. For more, see, http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,128270/article.html

Just when I thought the US government couldn't get any more ridiculous, I see this article. I cannot believe that we pay those loons $100k to come up with ridiculous laws like that. Let me guess, there'll be a 5% sales tax on all 15k armor. I cannot believe that this article even exists. |

Never thought I'd see the day where a MMORPG company actually really did take action against eBay. I remember my days playing RuneScape...
Jagex: Effective immediately, we will be banning anyone we see selling RuneScape items or gold on eBay. *searches "RuneScape" on eBay* "Found 176 results!" |
